marley & me

yesterday after church, instead of doing something wildly adventurous like exploring golden gate park, andy and I watched marley & me. i had never seen it before, writing it off as another cheesy dog movie, but oh mah goodness. by the end, BOTH of us were in tears. it was such a great movie. one of the things that struck me was jenny's "list." for those of you who haven't seen it, the main female character (jenny) has this to-do list for her life. and after getting and living with marley, the lovable but oh-so-troublesome golden lab, and having a few kids, she realized that her life did not go according to the plans of her list. i, as a college student, am in the stage of my life when it is expected of me to be making plans and to-do lists (in a broader sense than what i have to get done on tuesday between Bible study and sleeping), and this movie reminded me that robert burns is right: "the best laid schemes of mice and men often go awry." jenny says with confidence that the way her life turned out was so much greater than the life she had planned.
as i continue to hold my plans with open hands, i will trust that when the Lord's plans override my own, they are for the utmost better.

and, with ironic timing, i found out that my 15 year old aussie was put down this morning. popcorn, you were an undeniably lovable dog and you will be missed.
